Information about Cancer

The information service is staffed by health professionals who will help patients and carers to find any information they need. Books, leaflets, audio- and video-tapes and DVDs are available.

Psychological Support

The team of counsellors, psychologists and psychotherapists are experienced in helping with problems people often have to deal with after diagnosis, and can be accessed by patients directly or by clinical teams. Access to a psychiatrist is also available. The service is offered to in-patients, out-patients, partners/cares, families of patients with cancer, and those who are bereaved.

Support Groups

Support groups give people with cancer an opportunity to meet other sufferers in a relaxed atmosphere. They provide mutual support, information and understanding among people who know what it’s really like. Research has found that these groups can be very beneficial by giving patients are more positive outlook.

Complementary therapies

Many people use complementary therapies to help them to adjust to having cancer. They are frequently used to relax people before undergoing treatment, both on the hospital wards and at the Centres. Treatments available through the Dimbleby Cancer Care services are aromatherapy massage, refexology, relaxation and stress management, nutrition and healthy eating, and yoga and relaxation.

Benefits Advice

The benefits system can be confusing and there are still many people who are not aware of what benefits they can claim. The Dimbleby Cancer Care Information and Support Service offers the services of a Citizen’s Advice Bureau benefits expert who can help cancer patients to claim their full entitlements.
