On 7th December, David and Jonathan Dimbleby welcomed over 250 people to St Mary Magdalen church on Bermondsey Street for an evening of Christmas readings and festive songs, led by the Junior School Choir from Farringons School in Chislehurst.

Special guest readers included radio broadcaster Vanessa Feltz who read Twelve days of Christmas: A Correspondence by John Julius Norwich. The Mayor of Southwark, Cllr Dora Dixon-Fyle, also joined the charity for the evening. The Service was followed by a drinks reception and mince pies.

The event raised £3,145 for Dimbleby Cancer Care. The charity that was set up in 1966 in memory of broadcaster Richard Dimbleby and is based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals in London. It gives practical and psychological support to people living with cancer and to their families and carers.

Jonathan Dimbleby, chair of Dimbleby Cancer Care said: “It was a magical evening and a wonderful way to start the Christmas festivities. We are so grateful to the support the local Southwark community have given us this year and also everyone who came along last night, especially the children’s choir from Farringtons School and of course, all our fantastic readers.”
