How did I get here: Home

Dimbleby Cancer Care exists  to offer care and support to people affected by cancer – the patients, their families and carers. To read more about the charity’s history go to History at the top of this page. If you go to our Videos section you can hear David Dimbleby explain how and why Dimbleby Cancer Care (formerly the Richard Dimbleby Cancer Fund) was founded as a result of the public’s generosity following the death of his father, Richard Dimbleby.

What we do

The funds we raise through donations and legacies go into supporting the Dimbleby Cancer Care and Information and Support Services at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, and into national research projects through the Dimbleby Cancer Care Research Fund. The research we fund looks at the spectrum of issues relating to the care and support needs of people affected by cancer. Recently we have created, in partnership with Marie Curie Cancer Care, another research fund which focuses on care at the end of life.

Many years ago the charity endowed a Chair of Cancer Research at King’s College London. The current post holder is Professor Tony Ng. He and his team in the Dimbleby Laboratory are in the forefront of ‘personalised medicine’ – ie. through tissue imaging techniques they aim to discover the most fitting treatment for individual patients’ cancers – with increasing success.

Can you help?

As is the case with most charities in the current economic climate, charitable funds are increasingly difficult to come by. If you would like to contribute to the work we do, please consider a one off donation, a regular contribution, remembering us in your will, or perhaps even organising a fundraising event or running a marathon for us.

If you are interested in making a contribution, please either go to our Donations page, or contact us at admin@dimblebycancercare.org / 020 7188 7889.

One of the reasons I applied to work here was the reputation of the charity and the hospitals, and the quality of the psycho-oncology support

Researching areas others don't

Only around 5% of cancer research spending in the UK is on care.

DCC provides up to £1m annually for research into cancer care & support.

Care centres that go beyond medical treatment

Over a quarter of people living with cancer receive no support other than treatment.

DCC's centres provide a range of care, comfort & support that goes beyond just treatment

Dimbleby Cancer Care has a small number of staff, therefore our ability to answer detailed questions on cancer care, symptoms or treatments is limited. However we are pleased to try and help you, by directing you to others who may be able to help.
