Dimbleby Cancer Care has launched the ‘Care for the Future’ appeal to raise £500,000 to continue and expand its work within the cancer community.
The appeal was launched by Chair of the charity, Jonathan Dimbleby. He said: “This is a very important day for the charity. The aim is to ensure that this generation and the next and the next receive the best supportive care available.
“By 2020 half of the people living in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetimes and it is expected that 38% of those diagnosed will survive. As the demand on the services increases, Dimbleby Cancer Care’s role in supporting those people living with the practical and psychological effects of cancer becomes ever more vital.”
The two-year appeal, focuses primarily on the charity’s work in South East London, serving a population of almost 2million people. It coincides with the opening of the new cancer centre at Guy’s hospital in 2016, where the charity’s Information and Support Services will be based.
