Art Sale Fetches £32,500 at Christie’s

The Interiors’ Auction at Christie’s this afternoon saw Damien Hirst’s Skull and Bambi’s Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend fetch a staggering £32,500.

The collective estimated sale price for the pieces had originally been around £6k. But Bambi’s portrait of the Queen sold for £11,250 while Hirst’s pink and purple skull went for an amazing £21,250. David Dimbleby is donating the proceeds of the sale to Dimbleby Cancer Care which funds the cancer care services at Guy’s and St Thomas’ as well as essential research into cancer care issues. The charity is likely to receive in the region of £20,000 from the sale. Both pieces of art were generously donated to David by the artists themselves.

As a small charity – just 2 salaried part-time staff work for Dimbleby Cancer Care – £20,000 will make a real difference.

Time to have a look to see what else we have rattling around in the loft…
