Variations For Judith @ The Spitalfields Festival

David Dimbleby with Judith Serota, Melvyn Tan and the composers

On Monday evening we were lucky enough to be in the audience for the premier of a Variations for Judith – a suite a variations for the piano written for former Artistic Director of the Spitalfields Music Festival, Judith Serota.

As a former cancer patient and long time supporter of Dimbleby Cancer Care, Judith has generously arranged for a proportion of the royalities and proceeds from the publication of the score to come to the charity, and so on Monday David Dimbleby was invited to introduce the concert and explain the link between the music and the charity.

The performance from celebrated pianist Melvyn Tan was truly brilliant and everyone was in raptures by the end – Melvyn receiving multiple ‘curtain calls’ and treating us all to a encore of Debussy.

Afterwards Judith laid on a drinks reception with DCC volunteers Paul and Andrew kindly keeping everyone’s glass topped up.

We received some very kind donations on the evening and are also holding a silent auction of 5 copies of the manuscript, all signed by Judith, Melvyn and the composers, all proceeds coming to Dimbleby Cancer Care.

If you would like to have a chance of winning, please email your bid to robin.pritchard@dimblebycancercare.org by July 30th. Winners will be contacted after that date.
