On Tuesday 23rd September Quintessentially Foundation in partnership with Dimbleby Cancer Careinvited 40 teams to fight it out to become winners of the first ever World’s Greatest Quiz Night.

The brainchild of Quintessentially founder Ben Elliot, the quiz night was hosted by David and Jonathan Dimbleby. Over 170 people crowded into the Shepherd Hall at St Thomas’ Hospital in Central London which had been transformed into the perfect venue for a good old fashioned pub quiz with a difference. Guests included Stephen Fry, Tom Parker Bowles and MPs Simon Hughes and Michael Gove – none of whom made it onto the winning team in the end.

Over the course of 6 rounds of tough questions, 3 lucky teams were joined by Special Guests Claudia Winkleman, Nicholas Hewer and Jo Brand who leant their fine tuned brains to specific rounds.

Food and drink was supplied by the fantastic hospitality team at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and sponsored by Joseph Perrier, Boutique Beer Brands, Fullers and Frontier.

Joseph Perrier also donated a fantastic magnum of limited edition champagne for the auction. A pair of beautiful diamond earrings donated by Mayfair jeweller 77 Diamonds raised an amazing £2,000 alone.

In total the evening looks to have raised in excess of £45,000 which is a great start to the charity’s £500,000 Care For The Future appeal launched by Chairman Jonathan Dimbleby earlier this month.  The appeal coincides with the run up to the opening of the new Cancer Centre at Guy’s in 2016 which will be the new home to the Dimbleby Cancer Care Information and Support Services. The funds raised over the next 2 years will ensure the continuation and expansion of the vital support services as the demand for cancer care increases.
