Soak and Sleep-walking

13 members of staff from Guildford based company Soak&Sleep will be donning their pyjamas this month to walk 12km to raise money for Dimbleby Cancer Care.

The team is taking part in our #Walk50 challenge on 15 June which sees participants walk through the night and pass through 10 boroughs of London including Lambeth, Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea, Westminster, City of London, Greenwich, Southwark, Tower Hamlets and Wandsworth.

The team, who range in age from 7-45 years old, include Emma Sandiford, Ruth Welton, Alex Mckenna, Natalie Webb, Edmond Enache, Sarah Smith, Nicole Semedo, Charlie Hunt, Sally Hancox, Aimee Harrison, Matt Williams, Chris West and Emily Marshall. They will also be joined by Charlie’s two children. They are hoping to raise £1,300.

Charlie Hunt, CEO of Soak&Sleep said: “We have worked alongside the charity for a number of years from developing a comfortable pillow for those who receive treatment to taking part in fundraising events, so it’s great to continue the support in this way. We have taken part in the event before and have such fond memories of the day and night – we even bumped into Elvis Costello along the way last time – that we were really keen to sign up again but this time we’ve recruited a bigger team this year; extending to family and friends to widen the awareness! This year we wanted to do something a little different so decided to take part in our pyjamas!”

Over the last three years hundreds of people have supported Southwark based Dimbleby Cancer Care’s work by taking part in its Walk50 challenge. This year the challenge has grown to include three options for people wanting to take part. The 12km family walk, a 25km mid-distance walk and the full 50km walk.

All walkers will start the challenge at St Thomas’ Hospital at Westminster Bridge from 7pm and head west. The 12km takes them as far as Putney, and from there the 25km and 50km walkers continue on to Hammersmith Bridge before heading back through Central London. The 25km finish line will be in Westminster in the early hours of Saturday morning. The 50km route then goes out to Canary wharf and down to Greenwich via the Greenwich Foot tunnel, before heading back to the charity’s home at Guy’s Cancer Centre, beneath The Shard on Saturday morning where they will be met with hot coffee and bacon sandwiches at the finish line. The 25km and 50km options are only open to those aged 16 years or older.

Robin Pritchard, Director at Dimbleby Cancer Care added: “Everyone at Soak&Sleep have been so supportive of our charity’s work over the years, from sponsoring our Quiz Night to hosting fundraising events like our new DimbleTea campaign, and of course taking part in #Walk50 – we can’t thank them enough. The event has raised over £200,000 in the past three years and this year it’s promising to be bigger and better than ever.”

All the money raised will go towards the work of the charity across the UK. For more information or to sign up and take part please visit our events page.
