A team of 22 colleagues from Guildford have spent the past 12 months coming up with fundraising challenges so they could reach their £10,000 target for cancer care charity, Dimbleby Cancer Care – and they succeeded!

The group from Soak&Sleep, an online luxury bed and bath retailer, have undertaken various events and money raising ideas including a sample sale and pop up shops. 11 of its staff also took part in the charity’s 50km nighttime walk through London last summer with broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby to help reach their £10,000 target.

This year marks the charity’s 50th anniversary, set up in 1966 in memory of broadcaster Richard Dimbleby and based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals in London. It provides practical and psychological support to people living with cancer and to their families and carers.

The company chose the Southwark based charity as its Charity Of The Year in 2015 after developing a relationship with them when they began working together to design and produce special bolster pillows that the charity give out to cancer patients. They have also committed to support the charity for a second year as its Charity Of The Year for 2016.

Charlie Hunt, 45, CEO of Soak & Sleep said: “Dimbleby Cancer Care offers outstanding care and support, continuously working to improve the lives of cancer patients and their families. It’s an incredibly worthwhile cause and one that we are very proud to support on an ongoing basis. The pillows are just the tip of the iceberg – this is a cause very close to our hearts and we want to help in any way we can.

“Having an ongoing relationship with the charity is most definitely a morale booster for all staff – we love to learn how our donations are spent and to see the charity making such a huge difference to the lives of so many, on a daily basis. Taking part in larger scale activity such as the 50km walk was a challenge which we relished and, as much as we struggled through the physical elements involved, it was wonderful to reach the other side and know we are helping such a fantastic charity in the process. The staff are all very excited and have already started thinking about ideas for this year’s fundraising.”

Robin Pritchard, Director at Dimbleby Cancer Care added: “The support of Soak & Sleep allowed us to start producing our Dimbleby pillows again three years ago which made a huge difference to people going through a pretty horrible time of it. We have had such positive feedback from people going through cancer treatment of how something so simple can provide so much comfort to them.

“The Soak & Sleep team have done amazingly well with their fundraising and we are very grateful to their commitment and passion for our charity. They also sponsored and took part in our annual celebrity Quiz Night which in turn raised a further £65,000 in September last year. To know that we have their support again for another year and their commitment to raising another £10,000 is just wonderful and will help ensure that we can continue to make life better for those living with cancer next year and beyond.”

All the money raised will go towards the charity’s ‘Care for the Future’ appeal, which aims to raise £500,000 by the end of 2016 so that it can continue and expand its work within the cancer community.
